The 30-Minute Inspection Most Roofers Skip
We walk every square foot of your roof, photograph every concern, and email you a written report — not a sales-deck PDF designed to sell you a replacement. If your roof has another five storm seasons in it, we'll tell you that.
Tile, Metal, and Shingle Specialists
Hurricane prep looks different on every roof type. We check tile for slipped or cracked pieces and ridge cap integrity, metal for fastener back-out and panel-seam separation, and shingle for nail pops, lifted edges, and missing pieces. One inspector, the right method for your material.
We Stay With You After the Storm
If a storm does hit, we tarp active leaks same-day when we can get there, document damage for your insurance adjuster, and coordinate the permanent repair. Our customers don't call a roofer after a storm — they call us back.
Hurricane season in Central Florida runs June 1 through November 30. The roofs that come through it intact aren't the new ones — they're the ones that got the small problems fixed in May. A single missing fastener, a slipped tile, or a worn flashing edge is the difference between a 60-mph gust passing harmlessly and a $20,000 insurance claim. Southern Traditions Roofing has been doing pre-hurricane inspections across Orlando, Winter Park, Windermere, Lake Nona, and the surrounding metro since 2019.
What we check: loose or missing shingles and tiles, exposed nail heads, lifted ridge caps, flashing gaps around chimneys and skylights, soffit and fascia damage, attic ventilation, and signs of underlayment failure. For tile roofs specifically we check ridge mortar, slipped or cracked tiles, and hip cap detail — the failure points that turn into water entry the moment wind drives rain sideways. For metal we check fastener back-out, panel-to-panel seam integrity, and Z-bar and W-valley flashing. The full inspection takes about 30 minutes; the written report comes the same day.
If we find issues, you'll get firm written prices in three buckets: must-fix-before-June-1, fix-this-season, and watch-list. No high-pressure pitch — we built this business on referrals, and the homeowners who trust us most are the ones we've told their roof is fine. Licensed CCC#1332902, GAF Master Elite certified. Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the hurricane-prep inspection cost?
Free. We don't charge for pre-season inspections — it's how we meet most of our customers, and it builds the relationship that pays off if a storm does hit. There's no obligation to do any work afterward.
How quickly can you get out before June 1?
Mid-May through late-May we're typically booking 5–7 days out for inspections. The first two weeks of June get tight as people remember storm season started. If you call by May 20, we can almost certainly get to you before June 1.
Do you help with insurance claims after a storm?
Yes — we've handled hundreds of Central Florida insurance claims since 2019. We document damage with photos, meet your adjuster on-site, and make sure the approved scope matches the actual damage. We're not licensed as a public adjuster (that's a separate role), but we work alongside them when one is involved.
What's most likely to fail on a Florida roof in a hurricane?
On tile roofs: slipped or cracked tiles around the ridge and hips, plus ridge mortar that's broken down from UV exposure. On metal: fastener back-out where screws have worked loose over time. On shingle: lifted edges where the asphalt seal has weakened, especially on the windward side. Every one of those failures starts small and is cheap to fix before the storm — and expensive to fix after.
Are you really licensed and insured?
Yes — Florida Certified Roofing Contractor CCC#1332902. We carry general liability and workers comp. We'll send certificates to you or your HOA on request. You can also verify the license directly at MyFloridaLicense.com.
